Dear Readers,
Summer is almost upon us, bringing longer, warmer days and a plethora of great events to enjoy. The biggest event happening right now is, of course, the San Diego County Fair, which celebrates Americana but also has a healthy dose of internationally oriented concerts and festivities. There are a goodly number of Juneteenth celebrations throughout San Diego. The House of Lebanon will hold its annual Lawn Program on Saturday, and the 2-day St. Spyridon Greek Festival will take place this weekend. The City Heights Street Food Fest and the associated Music En La Calle Festival will also happen this weekend. This weekend and next week, there will be lots of music and dance events to enjoy, including Folklórico, Tango, Mariachi, Pacific Islander, and Latino Pop performances to get your feet tapping. A very special shoutout next Friday's Center for World Music's final spring concert Samba Roots: An Afro-Brazilian Journey at the Mingei, it should be a blast! Remember if you use the code WVP10 when ordering tickets you can get a discount! At the Central Library, there will be a talk on Blacktronika: Afrofuturism in Electronic Music. And the Kumeyaay Visual Storytelling Project will happen at the La Jolla Historical Society. This evening, there will be a Tenango Stitching Workshop at the Mingei, and next Thursday, the Night at the Black Museum event will take place at the Del Rey Moro African Latin Museum. Theatrical productions remain a stalwart of the cross-cultural scene with performances of Jaja's African Hair Braiding, Indian Princess, The Mountaintop, One of the Good Ones, All’s Well That Ends Well, White Guy on the Bus, As You Like It, and The Last Census happening right now. Ahmed Albasheer will be tickling funny bones at The Magnolia tonight. Saturday, Global Lucha Libre (Mexican-style pro wrestling) will take place at the atmospheric Mujeres Brew House. Tonight, there will be a Black Perspectives 2 Artist Open House at the Brooks Theater Gallery in Oceanside. Next Monday, a week-long Archaeology Summer Camp will be held at the San Diego Archaeological Center.
